(Meredith/CNN) – A new study suggests that exercising two or three times a week can keep your heart and arteries more youthful as you age.

The study was conducted by researchers in Dallas, Texas and was published in the Journal of Physiology. It focused on examining data from people older than 60 who kept track of exercise history during the course of their lives.

Researchers discovered that exercising for about half an hour may result in less stiffness in mid-sized arteries.

Working out four to five times a week helped larger central arteries, which pump blood to the abdomen and chest.
