ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

A design firm has been hired to take the Garment District on Washington Avenue to the next level.

At one time, St. Louis once boasted the second largest fashion and garment district in the United States. The district fell on hard times but has been revitalized recently with lofts, restaurants and bars.

City officials hired the firm Martinez + Johnson for the plan, which calls for making the area welcoming and lively as well as diversified in use and activities.

The same architecture firm redesigned New York’s garment district.
