ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

As the weather gets warmer, more park visitors will be out running, biking and golfing in Forest Park, leaving the vehicles they traveled in idle for thieves.

Earlier this week, News 4 found multiple cars were broken into near one of the golf courses at the park.

Police say the thief or thieves were able to get away with some personal items.

However, the incident wasn’t captured on the newly installed police cameras because it happened inside the park. The cameras are located at the entrances and exits.

Park visitors said they come to the park routinely and they feel safe, but understands crime can happen anywhere.

Police say so far this year the park has seen 23 car break-ins. However, they tell the numbers are on a decline.

Break-ins are down 11.5 percent and thefts are down 11.8 percent

Police say the cameras are recording and they’re still investigating the break-ins from earlier this week.
