Alton man charged with stealing vehicle, attempted burglary

TROY, Ill. (KMOV.com) -

The Troy, Illinois Police Department has charged an Alton man with stealing a motor vehicle and attempted burglary.

William Kavanuagh is facing felony charges after police were called to investigate a suspicious person and stolen vehicle.

On Tuesday, May 1 around 9 p.m., the Troy Police Department responded to the 600 block of Americana Drive for a report of someone looking in a building.

During an investigation, the Troy Police Department responded to the Casey’s General Store at 302 East US Highway 40 for a report of a stolen vehicle.

With the help from the community, the Troy Police Department received information that helped identify William Kavanuagh as the suspect.

Warrants were issued relating to motor vehicles and attempted burglary against Kavanuagh.

On May 15, he was arrested and transferred to Madison County jail.
