KIRKWOOD (KMOV.com) -

New technology is helping Kirkwood firefighters help save childrens' life quicker as they arrive on scene.

Created in 2010, the HandTevy application is a software helping clinical crews immediately get access to lifesaving dosage and equipment information. The software has been installed on tablets and smartphones for first responders in Kirkwood to receive important information as they arrive on scene.

"Every drug we need for a child from cardiac arrest to an asthma attack is kept right here," said Kirkwood Deputy Fire Chief David Smith.

Previously, firefighters used tape measure to calculate dosages for younger patients.

"This is a game change to move from weight based to length based, just as good if not better than weight, " said Smith.

Handtevy is currently being used by EMS systems around the country including cruise lines, helicopter companies and hospitals.

The app is available for both Androids and Apple Devices in their app stores for people to submit their information through.
