ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Water rate are going up for St. Louis County and parts of St. Charles County.

Missouri American Water says it received state approval for the rate hike. The money will be used to help maintain the system’s infrastructure.

Beginning this summer, some customers will start seeing monthly bills rather than a bill every three months.

“The idea is you’ll be able to manage you home budget better, if you see a hot, dry mouth and you’ve used a lot of water you get your water bill in month,” said Brian Russell, Missouri American Water.

The average St. Louis County customer will see about a five dollar a month increase.

In St. Charles County it will be about four dollars.
