(KMOV.com) - Funky smelling water has people talking across the St. Louis area.

The heat is to blame for the strange taste. A rapid increase in temperatures may be giving the water a musty or earthy smell.

Bottle water is an alternative option, but Missouri American Water says refrigerating tap water or using ice could help improve the taste.

The utility also says it will be monitoring their system to ensure the quality meets safety standards.
