SHREWSBURY (KMOV.com) -

Many drivers are complaining about speeding that is occurring in a construction zone on I-44 in Shrewsbury.

The stretch of highway is between Shrewsbury Avenue and Jamieson. Flower shop owner Keanue Normand says every time she drives through that stretch, she is worried about her safety.

“People are getting agitated and people are speeding,” said Normand.

Normand and others say something must be done to improve safety.

A News 4 crew used a radar gun and spotted cars going too fast. The posted speed limit is 45 miles per hour but many drivers were going at least 15 miles per hour above that.

Both the Missouri Highway Patrol and Shrewsbury police say they currently do not have any officers or troopers looking for speeders in the construction zone. Both agencies say they would need to receive an influx of complaints before taking action.

Both agencies said they have officers driving around the area and are encouraging drivers to make complaints if they see speeding.

The current configuration of I-44 in Shrewsbury will stay in place until at least December. The rest of the other work on I-44 will continue into 2019.
