2 in critical condition after motorcycle hits pedestrian in Jersey County

Illinois State Police are looking into what caused a motorcycle to crash into a pedestrian Thursday night.

The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Highway 67 south of Hillside Lane in Jersey County. A driver of a Yamaha Motorcycle was traveling northbound on US-67 when a pedestrian attempted to cross the road in the front of the motorcycle.

The driver of the motorcycle was unable to avoid the pedestrian and struck her. Both the driver and passenger of the motorcycle were ejected.

The passenger and pedestrian were transported to a local hospital in critical condition helicopter.

The roadway was shut down for about two and a half hours while the scene was processed.

Brighton Fire Department, Jersey County Sheriff’s Office and Illinois Department of Transportation were present during the investigation.

This crash is under investigation by the Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit.
