SOUTH ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -

Residents of two historic South City neighborhoods are complaining on social media about fireworks being shot off.

Dozens of residents who live in Lafayette Square and McKinley Heights say loud booms bad blasts have been a problem.

“I thought somebody was trying to shoot. I thought it was gunshots but it was much louder than that and close by,” said resident Maria German.

Some residents say the fireworks are beyond annoying.

Alderwoman Christine Ingrassia and Alderman Jack Coatar, who represent two South City wards where the firing off of fireworks are happening, have received six complaints. Both say they are working with police to zero in on areas where they know the fireworks are coming from.

Currently, those behind the fireworks are facing no penalty, but Ingrassia said that could change if educating those responsible does not change anything.
