ARNOLD, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

This Saturday is a national food pantry donation opportunity called "Stamp Out Hunger."

Food pantries in the St. Louis area are teaming up with the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) labor union to collect non-perishable foods items left nearby or inside people's mailboxes on Saturday, May 12.

Many people around St. Louis City, County and neighboring counties should have received a "Stamp Out Hunger" bag in the mail in advance, but if you didn't, you can fill any bag you want with non-perishable food donations. United States Postal workers will collect the donations when they drop off your mail on Saturday and bring the food directly to pantries in the city or county you live in.

The Arnold Food Pantry is one of the many pantries that benefit greatly from giving opportunities like "Stamp Out Hunger." They are one of the largest pantries in the state, serving over 300 families a day, not including emergency walk-ins.

"We distributed over $4 million worth of food last year in Jefferson County," said Phil Amato, Board President for the Arnold Food Pantry.

However, the only reason the pantry has food to give is because of donations.

"We get no state, federal, or United Way money," said Amato.

Cindy Church is one of the many people being served by these food pantries. She's been getting her groceries at Arnold Food Pantry twice a month for last year.

"It's helped me get established here. I finally have a home and have a part-time job," said Church.
