ILLINOIS (KMOV.com) -

The Illinois House has passed a new bill that would ban pay raises for lawmakers Wednesday.

The bill, which was co-sponsored by Illinois State Representative Avery Bourne, will eliminate the Cost of Living Adjustments for Illinois lawmakers, judges, and constitutional officers.

In a press release, Bourne said that he would gladly sign on to this bill to ensure that automatic raises don’t take effect.

“This bill is a step towards holding the line on spending and fighting for the taxpayers in Illinois,” Bourne said.

In addition, the legislation will freeze travel reimbursements for the fiscal year 2019.

The legislation passed with a 108-2 vote and will move to the Illinois Senate to vote on.
