ST. LOUIS (BaseballStL) -

The Cardinals have recalled right-handed pitcher John Gant from Memphis and optioned pitcher Mike Mayers to the Triple-A Redbirds.

Gant will make his first start of the season Monday night against the Minnesota Twins. The 25-year-old has made 28 career appearances in the majors, including nine starts.

This season in Memphis, Gant has a record of 4-0 with a 2.40 ERA in five starts thus far. Originally drafted by the Mets in 2011, Gant was traded to the Braves in 2015 and then to the Cardinals in 2016 for Jaime Garcia.

Mayers, who was just called up Sunday, pitched 3 innings of relief in the Cardinals 14-inning victory over the Cubs Sunday. Mayers is 1-0 with a 1.86 ERA and one save in his five relief appearances in 2018.
