SULLIVAN, Mo. (KMOV.com) – A Mississippi man is accused of assaulting a paramedic before biting an officer in Franklin County over the weekend.

Around 2 a.m. Sunday, officers from the Sullivan Police Department were called to a business on Missouri Avenue for a report of a fight between two men. When they arrived, they found a man with a head injury who appeared to be intoxicated and was screaming. Police believe the man, later identified as Frank Yelverton, fell at a nearby restaurant and sustained a head injury.

The 27-year-old from Pass Christian, Mississippi agreed to be transported to a Sullivan hospital for treatment. While going to the hospital, Yelverton allegedly began fighting with the ambulance crew and assaulted a paramedic. An officer that was following the ambulance stopped to assist the crew.

When the ambulance got to the hospital, the suspect reportedly became combative and kicked a Sullivan officer in the back of his head. He also bit another Sullivan officer on the arm, according to officials.

After being treated for his injuries, the suspect was taken to the Crawford County Jail. He was charged with two counts of felony third-degree assault of a special victim. His cash bond was set at $65,000.
