EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (KMOV.com) -

Police said a body was found in the front yard of an East St. Louis home early Saturday morning.

Just before 8 a.m., officers found Demarco Bush,39, in the 1700 block of Martin Luther King with a gunshot wound to his chest.

Neighbor Laron Epps told News 4 that he heard a loud crash outside his home earlier that night. Epps said he saw two men running from a car that looked damaged.

"You could tell by the way he was running, he was limping, he was hurt. The accident was very loud. My bedroom is in the back of the house and it woke me from my sleep," said Epps.

East St. Louis Chief of Police Jerry Simon said  it is unclear if the man found is connected to the crash.

"We can't confirm if that had anything to do with it. That is something they're investigating. Allegedly there was an accident a couple blocks down and people ran from the scene. We don't know if this is part of that or not yet," Simon said.

No additional information has been released.

The investigation is ongoing.
