SOUTH ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -

A home’s security camera in McKinley Heights recorded what sounds like gunshots this week.

It happened around 4:30 a.m. and you can hear a number of pops.

“Couple nights ago I heard some shots in the distance,” said Javier Gomez who lives in the neighborhood. “My desk is at my window there and I heard it and I remember thinking, ‘should I get behind the wall?’ because I was close to the window so yeah definitely a concern.”

There have been some posts about the gunfire amongst neighbors online across a number of South City neighborhoods.

St. Louis Metropolitan Police said they’ve had four calls for gunshots in last seven days in Benton Park, but officers never found any victims.

News 4 talked with many people Wednesday evening who said hearing gunshots in the area is not completely abnormal.

“Nothing recently, but I would just say it’s kind of the norm, it just happens every once in a while,” said Amy Hill.

Gomez said he thinks hearing the gunfire could be connected to their proximity to many highways.

He’s grateful for his neighbors sharing safety information on Nextdoor, a social networking site for neighborhoods, because it allows him to know what’s going.

“It brings an awareness and lets you be more mindful of what’s going on around your surroundings,” said Gomez.

Police remind people that if you hear gunshots you should contact them so they can investigate.
