ARNOLD, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

A man was carjacked at a South City gas station with his puppy inside Thursday night, the victim said.

Nelson Rainer said he had the scare of his life when he was filling up his orange Dodge Ram.

"The guys just pulled in when I was getting the nozzle out of the tank and they are telling move don't move," Nelson.

Nelson said Chapo, his two-month-old pitbull puppy, was inside the car and is still missing. Nelson was not injured.

"My dog was in the back, you know my son. I don't even look at him as a dog," said Nelson.

Police said the suspects were seen firing shots from the stolen truck at other motorists on I-55 near the Jefferson County-St. Louis County border.

Officers later spotted the car and attempted to make a traffic stop near the Highway 367 ramp to eastbound I-270. The driver refused to stop and sped off.

A brief pursuit ended after the suspects struck another car near the Chain of Rocks Bridge. Authorities said five suspects fled from the car but were taken into custody shortly.

Several guns were recovered, police say.

The suspects were identified as adults males with ages ranging from 17 years old and 26 years old.
