Second man this month arrested for attacking firefighters

Posted: Updated:

Madison County prosecutors have charged a man with aggravated battery for allegedly attacking a firefighter. What makes this even stranger is this is the second time this month an individual has attacked a firefighter in Madison County.

On Saturday, April 21, Christopher M. Roemer, 28, of Godfrey was charged for allegedly kicking a firefighter in the shin and groin. The alleged attack occurred when firefighters were trying to address an emotional distress call.

Earlier in April, authorities charged David W. Preis, 57, after he allegedly knocked down two Alton firefighters responding to an open burning call.

Neither attack warranted medical assistance to the firefighters.

Chief Bernie Sebold of the Alton Fire Department says this is the first time someone attacked his personnel as they wore full gear that identified them as firefighters.
