COLLINSVILLE, Ill. (KMOV.com) – The May Dance scheduled for May 5 at Collinsville High School has been canceled after a threatening letter was received by school district officials.

On April 23, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Robert Green stated a threatening letter was addressed to him that conveyed a threat to safety or persons attending to annual May Dance, which is held at the high school and sponsored by the Teepee organization.

After receiving the letter, the police department was contacted and launched an investigation in hopes of identifying the sender.

Two days before the dance was scheduled to take place in the school’s gym, Dr. Green said the Collinsville Teepee organization had decided to cancel the event.

Anyone with information about the threat should call the police department at 618-344-2131.
