ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – The Kingshighway Bridge is expected to completely reopen this summer.

All six lanes of the bridge are expected to open on June 1.

City leaders said the 78-year-old bridge was crumbling so they widened the three lanes in both directions and added sidewalks.  The project started almost three years ago, in July 2015. It was supposed to take two years to rebuild and two lanes in each direction were reopened about a year ago.

Now, after months of delays, crews are putting on the finishing touches, including lighting and fencing work. The city partly blames the delays on uncovered utility lines and heavy rains during construction.
