ST. CHARLES COUNTY (KMOV.com) -

A new program in a St. Charles County school district is tackling the issue of food preferences.

The program known as Food Explorers is at the Orchard Farm Early Learning Center. Counselors and therapists work with preschoolers who may have aversion to certain foods.

Staffers say parents tell them it works.

“Having a parent walk up to us and say ‘wow my daughter just ate pizza and she’s never eaten pizza before, and know it’s because of when she comes and talks about food explorers,” said Angie Thro, an occupational therapist with the Orchard Farm Early Learning Center.

Students pay special attention to food texture, temperature, smell and taste.

The program has been expanded due to growing demand.
