ILLINOIS (KMOV.com) -

A Central Illinois community is in the national spotlight for being the hometown of Travis Reinking, the suspected Waffle House shooter who killed four people and wounded two in Nashville.

As investigators took over the town of Morton, Illinois Sunday, locals, residents and law enforcement said they're familiar with Reinking and his family.

"I don't really know Travis that well, I know his parents a lot better. They're established people, they're well-liked," said former neighbor Dale Colby. "They're churchgoers. This is something you would not expect."

The Reinking's countryside home was swarmed by federal investigators ATF agents searching for weapons. Police said Reinking had an Illinois firearms license and had guns taken away from him months ago.

"Among the weapons seized by authorities was the AR -15 rifle used in the waffle house shooting today. Our police department has received information that the guns were returned by Tazewell authorities to Reinking's father who has now acknowledged giving them back to his son," said Don Aaron, a spokesman for the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department

Sheriff Robert Huston of the Tazwell Count Police Department said Reinking's father had a legal right to take custody.

"The father was present and had an FOID card, a valid FOID card and had the legal right to take custody of the weapons. So he was allowed to do that after he assured deputies that he would keep them secure and away from Travis," Huston said.

Officers were outside the Reinking Family Crane business outside of Morton. The 29-year-old was recently fired from his job in the same industry near Nashville.

News 4 discovered a local police report that stated the alleged gunman was hostile towards police.
