Firefighter injured while battling north St. Louis blaze Sunday night

NORTH ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -

A firefighter was injured while battling a fire in north St. Louis late Sunday night.

The fire started at a vacant building in the 5000 block of Vernon, near the intersection of Kingshighway and Page just before 9:30 p.m.

After starting at the vacant building, the fire spread to three others. Three of the four homes were vacant at the time of the fire. A couple getting ready to celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary and teenage daughter lived in the one occupied home.

The firefighter, who was injured in a fall while battling the blaze, was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
