ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

With the weather finally starting to warm up, most people will be heading outside a lot more often to enjoy the sunshine. But the warmer weather also brings with it ticks, and one tick is one you should be aware of.

A bite from the “Lone Star Tick” can cause it’s victims to not be able to eat red meat for the rest of your life.

The tick bite can cause a alpha galactose allergy which can lead to a severe allergic reaction when a person consumes red meat.

News 4 spoke with Robert Stiern who has the allergy.

"I had itching so bad on my hands, arms and legs," said Stiern.

Steirn offered up some wisdom to those who might be affected by the tick bite.

"If you do start having problems go see doctor," said Stiern. "This problem is relatively new to the area."
