VENICE, Ill. (KMOV.com) – Route 3 near Venice, Illinois has reopened following an early morning double fatal crash.

The crash occurred on the roadway near East Broadway around 4 a.m. Wednesday.

While trying to catch up to the truck, the officers drove around a passenger vehicle to get closer to the truck and “conduct a traffic stop,” Illinois State Police officials said. When the officers tried pulling the truck over, the suspect vehicle sped up and crashed.

After the single-vehicle crash, the truck caught fire. Two people inside the truck were pronounced dead.

The roadway was closed for several hours while emergency crews were at the scene.

No information regarding injuries has been released.
