A bill that would authorize an investigative committee to introduce articles of impeachment against Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens has been filed.

The resolution, which was filed Tuesday by House Minority Leader Gail McCann Beatty, would authorize the legislative committee investigating Greitens to introduce articles of impeachment against him “upon finding of good cause.”

Wednesday, Republican Steve Cookson of Poplar Bluff joined as co-sponsor.

"I know I am going out on a limb as far as co-sponsoring a Democratic resolution but I think there are others with similar feelings that are still a little bit afraid to step out," Cookson said.

The resolution was introduced on the same day that Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley said there is probable cause that Greitens used the donor list from his charity, the Mission Continues, for personal gain.

After Hawley spoke, several Republican leaders in the legislature called on Greitens to step down.

The special committee has already produced a report detailing alleged wrongdoing by Greitens in connection with an affair he had before he was elected. Greitens has admitted to the affair but has denied wrongdoing.

Many Republicans have said they want the committee to complete its work before starting the impeachment process.

He is facing a felony invasion of privacy charge for allegedly taking a photo of the woman he was having an affair with when she was in a compromising position. He is accused of threatening to share the photo if she spoke about the encounter.
