JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

The pressure on Republicans in the Missouri Legislature over whether they should impeach Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens seemed to intensify Monday.

GOP lawmakers met Monday afternoon after Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley announced there is probable cause that Greitens used a donor list from the charity he founded, the Mission Continues, for personal gain.

“The Attorney General is very serious, these are very serious charges. We’ve put our faith in him and he has done his job,” said Republican Rep. Jean Evans of West County who is calling on Greitens to step down.

Republicans are divided on whether they should pursue impeachment right away or wait for the special legislative committee investigating Greitens to finish its work.

The meeting was at times peppered with the discussion.

"A lot of arguing," said St. Rep. Steve Cookson of Poplar Bluff. "They're tearing our whole party and caucus apart," Cookson said referring to some Republicans who still support the Governor.

The investigative committee has published a report on alleged wrongdoing committed by Greitens in connection with an extramarital affair. He has admitted to the affair but denied wrongdoing connected to it.

Off camera, one Republican lawmaker told News 4 that Hawley's announcement may be the last nail in the coffin for Greitens tenure as governor. GOP leadership was reportedly resisting efforts to start the impeachment process right away but later on Tuesday,  Republican House leaders called on Greitens to step down.

Democrats are not conflicted and are insisting that lawmakers take steps to remove Greitens as soon as possible.
