FREEBURG, Ill. (KMOV.com) – A dog from Freeburg, Illinois isn’t letting being born without eyes and deaf slow her down.

Hope is a 5-year-old Dachshund who “was the product of backyard breeding,” according to the Having Hope Always Facebook page. Her owner said a week after being adopted Hope learned the layout of her new home.

"She [Hope] starts every morning with a wagging tail and kisses. Hope smiles whenever she feels the warmth of the sun. Her love of life inspired me to live again and proved that neither of were broken and that being differently-abled does not mean disabled," read a portion of the 'Hero Dog Awards' nomination.

Last month, Purina chose Hope’s story to be part of their ‘Pawsitive Connections’ video series. The series will highlight inspirational relationships between pets and their owners. The videos will then play in the Purina Farms Visitor Center Theater later in the year.

Hope has thousands of followers online and is now nominated for the American Humane's ‘Hero Dog Awards.’ She is competing against 265 other dogs in a quest to be named the nation’s most inspirational dog.

Votes for the ‘Hero Dog Awards’ can be submitted until 2 p.m. on April 25. Click here to cast your vote.
