ST. CLAIR, Mo. (KMOV.com) – The St. Clare Catholic School in St. Clair, Missouri is closing after being open for 76 years.

The pastor of the parish notified parents over the past few days that the school would close at the end of the school year.

In the late 50’s the school hit its peak enrollment of 140 but was down to just 38 students this year. Despite disappointment in the community, the parish thought it wasn’t fiscally responsible to keep the school open with so few students.

The parish said it would help families who want to transfer their children to Immaculate Conception School in Union or St. Anthony in Sullivan.
