SHREWSBURY, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Drivers who use the Shrewsbury ramp to travel east on Interstate 44 will need to use an alternate route starting Wednesday, March 14.

MoDOT crews will close the ramp after 12 p.m., weather permitting. The ramp will remain closed until December 2018.

The I-44 roadwork has begun, resulting in traffic headache through December

In addition, crews will close two lanes on eastbound I-44 at 9 a.m. on Thursday, March 15 to shift traffic onto the westbound I-44 lanes. Between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., crews will have three lanes of I-44 closed for about a half-hour to complete the switch. At 2 p.m., three lanes of eastbound I-44 traffic will be shifted onto the westbound I-44 lanes, and one lane will remain closed, around-the-clock, through December 2018.

This construction replaces the eastbound I-44 bridge over the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad tracks. It started in 2017, with a similar replacement of the westbound I-44 bridge over the tracks.
