WOOD RIVER, Ill. (KMOV.com) – A car crashed through the front of a Wood River fruit stand Sunday.

The owner of “The Fruit Stand” told News 4 the building was closed when the 22-year-old driver lost control of the car.

The stand has been in Wood River for 40 years. The stand’s owner, Don Stevens, opened it when he was 24 years old.

Stevens said when he arrived to check out the damage, several people, including friends and employees, were already there to help clean up.

The driver, Latarkus L. Cutler, of Wood River, was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries after the crash. He was later cited for not having a valid driver's license and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Stevens said he is hoping to have the stand running again by Wednesday.
