ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- At Saint Louis University's Chaifetz Arena Thursday night, it was all robots and the future.

High school teams competed in the first Robotic Competition, with the University City team getting help from a mentor from Boeing.

A Boeing spokesman says the company sees this as investment in the future of the students and the company:

"Giving them opportunities to work hands-on and apply skills is going to be very beneficial to them in the future and to the employees they're going to work for in the future," said Sarah Reed,

Thursday and Friday the students are just practicing and fine-tuning.

The competition starts in earnest this weekend and is free to attend.
