CREVE COEUR, Mo. (KMOV.com) – A burglary suspect is in custody following a short pursuit in Creve Coeur Wednesday morning.
Around 2:45 a.m. officers were notified that a suspicious person was pulling on door handles along Woodline Drive and Hickory Glen Lane. Shortly after that call, a residential alarm sounded in the 400 block of Briergreen Court. When officers arrived at the home, they found an unsecured door but no one inside. Not long after that call, officers were notified that a resident of the Hibler Oaks subdivision saw an unknown man rifling through a storage bin on his back porch.
The unidentified man then left the area and officers conducted patrols in an attempt to locate him.
Then, around 8:30 a.m., a resident in the area of Gaillard Drive called police to report a man in her garage rummaging through her vehicle. After being seen by the resident, the man ran into a nearby wooded area.
Officers then set up a perimeter and began searching the area. During the search they had the assistance of the St. Louis County Police Department’s Air Support and K-9 Unit. The Creve Coeur Police Department also used their drone. The suspect was eventually taken into custody in the area of Winrock Drive following a short foot pursuit.
Charges and the suspect’s identity are expected to be released later in the day Wednesday.
School officials at Parkway Northeast Middle told News 4 they were asking people to be vigilant about who they allow into the schools during the search. They also said there was an increased police presence Wednesday.
