ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – A man has been charged with First Degree Assault after a woman was shot in a North County apartment early Tuesday morning.

The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office issued charges Tuesday against Anthony Mcelmurry, 43, of the 11800 block of Strand Place in Florissant. Mcelmurry is charged with one count of First Degree Assault and one count of Armed Criminal Action.

The woman was shot in the 11800 block of Strand Drive around 4:40 a.m. Tuesday. She was taken to the hospital for treatment and is expected to survive, police said.

When officers arrived at the shooting scene, Mcelmurry was taken into custody. Police said a gun was recovered.

Police believe Mcelmurry and the victim are acquaintances and were arguing at the time of the shooting.

Mcelmurry is being held on a $150,000 bond.
