WEBSTER GROVES, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

A local paint studio in Webster Groves is encouraging people to “unplug” from their cell phone.

Pinot’s Palette has teamed up with Reboot, a national non-profit, asking people to put their phones down.

According to a study by Pew Research Center, 75 percent of Americans have a cell phone and half of them said they can’t live without it.

If that’s you, you may have “nomophobia”, the fear of not having access to your cell phone.

Pew Research Center found that most people use their phones for things like shopping, looking for a date, or reading a book.

If you put the phone down, Pinot's instructor Maryann Russel says you can pick up a paintbrush.

“I think art is therapy,” said Russel. “Getting away from social media and getting involved in something you’re not comfortable with normally, and you experience something new, it helps you grow in a way.”

Pinot’s Palette is calling it National Week of Unplugging. If you do come to their studio, they have sleeping bags for your phones and a paint brush to east your mind.

National Week of Unplugging is March 5-12.
