CHESTERFIELD, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

U.S. Senator Roy Blunt escaped the winter storm in Washington D.C. to visit St. Louis County Friday and talked with reporters about the gun debate and Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens.

Senator Blunt made a stop at the Maryville Marriott in Chesterfield to talk with the Missouri Hospital Association about the opioid crisis.

"I have spoken once to the Governor since this incident started," Blunt said when asked about Greitens.

Senator Blunt says he's willing to let law enforcement and investigators do their work.  Governor Greitens is facing a criminal indictment for alleged invasion of privacy. He is also facing an investigation in the Missouri House of Representatives.

As for the gun debate, Senator Blunt says he is a firm supporter of the Second Amendment and is pushing for improving the background check system.

"My view is we need to get a bill on the floor that is likely to get 60 votes," Blunt says.
