Lyft offers free rides during nationwide March For Our Lives rallies

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

 Lyft will be offering free rides during the nationwide March For Our Lives events to support the activism work of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School students.

On March 24, citizens will march in the streets of Washington D.C. to bring awareness to gun violence and the growing number of mass shootings in schools.

Local organizers plan to march in solidarity down Market Street to the Arch at 10 a.m. Saturday. The march will honor with the gun violence victims and to demand action from Congress.

Speakers and performers will perform after the march ends.

The event was inspired by students across the country who want to take action to stop the epidemic of mass shootings, according to their website.

In a statement, Lyft said that the company was inspired by the example that the survivors of Parkland, Florida shooting set. Several students from the Florida high school have spoken out again lawmakers to make new gun laws after the Feb. 14 shooting that left 17 dead. 

Dear Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School students,

We want to send you a note of condolences,thanks and solidarity. We believe there is something seriously wrong when the threat of gun violence is so frequent and real throughout our country. And like many, we inspired by your leadership.

We'd be honored to support your work with free Lyft rides to March For Our Lives rallies across the country on March 24. (please remember, anyone riding under 18 must be accompanied by an adult).

Recent tragedies have created a lot of fear and uncertainty , and as new parents those feelings have taken on a new meaning. Your bravery and intelligence have provided a renewed and much needed hope for out future. We are incredible grateful for  the example you are setting.

Thank you for speaking up and showing the world that young people can drive meaningful change. We will continue using our voice and platform to encourage civic participation.
