Twenty-seven years ago today Operation Desert Storm ended.

The Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs hosted the Desert Storm Remembrance Ceremony at Lindenwood University-Belleville Wednesday.

The ceremony honored Illinois veterans who served in Operation Desert Storm and remembered those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the United States.

“I hope for all of us who leave here today, we remember this is something that doesn’t happen on a day, a holiday or an event, that it’s every day we owe out debt of gratitude,” said Brett Barger.

The National Desert Storm War Memorial approved by President Donald Trump and Congress will be built by 2021 on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
