EUREKA, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

The parking lot and beyond at Six Flags St. Louis was packed full of cars Saturday for a chance to snag a sale.

The busy day was a part of the Eureka Chamber of Commerce's 11th annual Garage Sale and Swap Meet. But many, especially drivers on I-44, were frustrated with the traffic the event caused.

William Hawanchak and his friend tried to get in to the swap meet on Saturday only to spend much of the morning in their car.

"We spent two hours on the highway and it took 45 minutes just to leave the area," said Hawanchak when asked about his swap meet frustrations.

He says there was really no communication to the people lined up waiting to let them know what was going on. Early bird shoppers were supposed to be allowed in at 7 a.m. but organizers say so many showed up they opened 20 to 30 minutes early.

When organizers realized there were too many people MoDOT and the Missouri State Highway Patrol were contacted. By 9:30 a.m., the organizers stopped admission.
