ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

A group of activists are rallying together to demand more changes from Ameren Missouri Tuesday.

Speakers from the Sierra Club, NAACP and “Renew Missouri Organizations are pushing Ameren to transition to 100 percent clean energy.

The groups handed over 2,000 letters and petitions from Ameren customers supporting the proposed transition.

Sierra Club Representative Sara said the group has three main concerns that was outlined in the petition.

“The first is a bigger and bolder plan with cleaner energy and Ameren moving away from burning coal,” Sara said. “The third is we want to have a public dialog. We want the public to be allowed to engage in this process.”

Ameren spokesman Craig said the company is trying to implement changes as ‘quickly as possible’.

“We believe it is the right thing to do for our customers and the environment. However, it’s important we balance the affordability and reliability for our customers at the same time while investing in these new renewable energy sources.” Craig said.

Ameren officials said they have a 20 year plan that would implement major expansions with solar and wind power.
