SWANSEA (KMOV.com) -

Federal officials will help foot the bill to fix the collapsing ground under a Swansea school.

Wolf Branch Middle School suffered damage in 2017 when parts of the floor started buckling. The school in Swansea sits above an abandoned mine.

Federal and state mining officials will spend $1.9 million to stabilize the hollow ground beneath the school.

Work could be done by the summer. The school will then rebuild damaged portions of the building.

Currently, students are sharing space with an elementary school.
