ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- About nine hours after first taking off from St. Louis Lambert International Airport, passengers on board a Delta flight finally arrived in Atlanta, according to the flight tracker website flightaware.com.

The plane flying from St. Louis to Atlanta first returned to St. Louis and was searched because of a maintenance issue, Delta said. However, officials at Lambert said it was a security issue.

The pilot said he heard a noise that sparked concern.

When the plane landed at Lambert Airport and everyone was let off. Passengers were held at the gate and the plane from service while it was searched.

The all-clear was later given.
