MEXICO, Mo. (KMOV.com) - Missouri Governor Eric Greitens made a visit to the state Veterans Home in Mexico to talk about improvements in the care of veterans.

"You have to be out talking with them, hearing them," Greitens said after meeting veterans.

It was the complaints of veterans' families about poor treatment in the veterans home in North St. Louis County that sparked change in the Veterans Commission from the top down.

"Human dignity and respect, I think we've earned that," said Marine veteran Dwight Hudspeth.

Greitens also talked with reporters about the current investigation by the St. Louis Circuit Attorney into allegations of blackmail by Greitens during an extramarital affair.   Greitens admits the infidelity before he was elected governor but denies the blackmail allegation.

"I'm confident any fair look at this will put this to rest," Greitens said.

When asked about the current discussion on gun control, Greitens talked about addressing mental illness and policies of school safety.\

"I don't think gun restrictions alone are going to be the answer."
