SIUE ranked near top of 'Safest College Campus in U.S.' list - KMOV.com

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville has been ranked the 11th Safest College Campus in the U.S. by Alarm.org.

SIUE was ranked number one among Illinois schools and ranked ahead of all colleges and universities in Missouri.

“We understand that when parents and students select a university, campus safety is a primary consideration,” said SIUE Chancellor Randy Pembrook, PhD. “We are proud of SIUE’s commitment to safety, and the collaboration of the SIUE Police Department with local and regional law enforcement agencies to provide a safe environment.”

Other Missouri and Illinois schools that made the top 100 include Western Illinois University at 36, University of Missouri-Columbia at 76 and the University of Central Missouri at 95.

Alarm.org ranked 243 schools and two St. Louis schools finished in the bottom ten of their rankings. University of Missouri-St. Louis came in at 238 followed by Washington University at 239.

Alarm.org created the ranking using the most recent data from the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting and the Campus Safety Security Survey put out by the U.S. Department of Education. The ranking was only eligible for colleges and universities with an enrollment greater than 10,000.
