The Normandy Police Department is urging the public to avoid buying electronics through an app after one person was shot Sunday.

Police said the victim used the ‘Letgo’ app to buy a phone that was posted online by a seller. The app is a mobile marketplace local residents use to buy and sell items.

Authorities said the victim agreed to meet the suspect near the 5000 block of Bermuda and was shot during the exchange.

The shooting victim was transported to a local hospital. Their condition is unknown.

Normandy police told News 4 that similar robberies have been reported where sellers post items on the app and encourage buyers to meet in neighborhoods near Normandy or Ferguson. Police said when the victims arrive at the meet-up location, they’re robbed immediately.

Law enforcement said they are investigating these string of robberies.

Anyone with information about the crimes is encouraged to contact Normandy Police at 314-385-3300.
