Police: Vandalia teen planned to shoot up school; claimed he was joking

VANDALIA, Ill (KMOV.com) -- Vandalia, Illinois police have released a statement on a threat that was made at Vandalia High School on February 14.

Vandalia Police Chief Jeff Ray said police were notified that a student made comments about having a plan to carryout a shooting in the school.

Police interviewed multiple witnesses and spoke to the student that made the comments. The male student claimed he was joking around when he made the threatening comments.

Police arrested the student on Wednesday morning for disorderly conduct.

Parents of Vandalia High School students were not made aware of the threat until Friday.

The Vandalia Police Department added that they take these sort of threats very seriously.
