Wrong-way driver killed, 6 injured in overnight crash on WB I-70 near Troy, Ill.

TROY, Ill. (KMOV.com) – One person was killed and six were injured when a wrong-way driver crashed on Interstate 70 near Troy, Illinois overnight.

Illinois State Police officials said, according to their preliminary investigation, a white car with two people inside was traveling the wrong direction in the westbound lanes of the interstate near milepost 17 when it collided head-on with a black car.

The driver of the white car was ejected during the crash and pronounced dead at the scene.

The passenger of the white car and the five occupants of the black vehicle were all taken to the hospital.

The westbound lanes of the interstate were closed while emergency crews were on the scene. They reopened around 5:30 a.m. Friday.
