ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- The 2018 James Beard semifinalists have been announced and several St. Louis restaurants and chefs made the cut.
The James Beard Awards are known as the Oscars of the food world.
St. Louis’ vegetable-forward restaurant Vicia located in the Central West End neighborhood was nominated for Best New Restaurant.
A longtime staple for fine dining, Tony’s in Downtown St. Louis, is nominated for Best Service.
In the Best Chef Midwest category, there are four St. Louis chefs. Ashley Shelton of Sardella in Clayton, Lona Luo of Lona’s Little Eats in Fox Park and Ben Grupe of Elia in the Botanical Heights neighborhood are all nominated for the first time. Mike Randolph is nominated for Privado, a tasting menu only space that recently opened in University City.
Finalists will be announced on March 14 and the winners will be announced at the gala in Chicago on May 7th. See the full list of semifinalists click here.
