ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – A small child was reunited with mom after a carjacking in south St. Louis Tuesday morning.

The child was inside a car that was taken from the area of Chippewa and Louisiana. Officers then found the child, safe, in the 3400 block of McKean.

The stolen SUV then kept going north, hitting a parked car near Louisiana and Arsenal.

"He hit the car on the curb here and just kind of hit and briefly backed up and took off again," said Don O'Connor.

The pursuit continued up Compton, where witnesses say as many as 8 police cars were following.

The chase ended along the 3100 block of Chouteau, where the suspect was taken into custody.

During the police chase, multiple police vehicles were struck.

The investigation is ongoing.
