SOUTH ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -

One person was killed and another was injured in a multiple-vehicle crash in South City Monday night.

Police say the accident involving two cars happened near the intersection of Kingshighway and Arsenal just after 9:30 p.m.

The driver of one of the cars, 22-year-old Sarfaraz Sherzai, of the 5200 block of Lakewood, was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger in the car, a 24-year-old man, was rushed to a St. Louis hospital in critical, unstable condition.

Accident reconstruction crews were called to investigate. The intersection was closed for a while but reopened overnight.

Editor's note: Shortly after the crash occurred officers said two people had died, they later issued a correction stating that only one person died in the crash and the second was taken to the hospital.
